Couple Therapy

Are you feeling disconnected and alone in your relationship? Do you wonder where the spark and happiness have gone? Are you becoming more and more distressed as the hurts and resentments build up? Do you and your partner feel discouraged by having the same fight over and over without resolution? Are you longing for the love, care and comfort that used to be there?

HOW I CAN HELP

In our closest relationships, we can feel the most joy and love, as well as the most hurt and despair – especially when our conflicts and resentments have not been repaired or our needs are not being met.

I will stand alongside you rooting for your relationship and help you move from a negative cycle of pain and disconnection to a secure, loving and safe bond.

As you learn how your hurtful patterns of interacting trigger each other’s deepest fears of abandonment, rejection and isolation have been co-created, the foundation for co-creating healing and positive change is being built.

Successful relationships take hard work; they can be immensely fulfilling and meaningful, enabling you to take refuge in each other, thrive, feel love, and deep emotional connection. I will work with you as a couple and at times individually to further growth and change.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS EFT COUPLE THERAPY?

Decades of evidence-based research have demonstrated this model of therapy as the most effective in creating a secure and loving bond for 70-75% of couples and lessening distress for 90% of couples.

HOW CAN COUPLE COUNSELING CHANGE YOUR RELATIONSHIP?

  • by repairing and healing the hurts and pain that have caused disconnection
  • in meeting each other’s needs with empathy and understanding
  • by developing tools to communicate effectively and navigate the inevitable challenges couples face
  • building trust and strong emotional connections
  • creating positive bonding patterns

As Dr. Sue Johnson, the creator of EFT explains-
“Love is a constant process of tuning in, connections, missing and misreading cues, disconnecting, repairing and finding deeper connection. It is a dance of meeting and parting and finding each other again, minute to minute, day by day.”

MY REVIEWS (Unsolicited)

“I highly recommend Cheryl Pearlman, who works with the EFT ‘Emotional Focused Therapy’ approach. She is smart, warm and nonjudgmental. She creates an environment where parties can open up and feel safe to discuss conflicts and concerns.”

“I second the recommendation for Cheryl Pearlman (718) 514-3332. She saved our marriage by helping up learn how to communicate effectively in her office and outside of her office. She has a warm and gentle demeanor and her approach to issues using EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy) was nonjudgmental and allowed us to talk to one another with a little redirection at times.”

“She has helped bring my marriage, which was completely in crisis and rapidly disintegrating, back to a loving communicative state. She is lovely and ever so helpful in re-opening the lines of flowing communication…but doesn’t accept insurance. Good luck. It’s a hard road…hang in there. (September 2011)”
